Outpatient Occupational Therapy – Occupational Therapists help patients improve their ability to perform tasks in living and working environments. They work with individuals who suffer from a mentally, physically, developmentally, or emotionally disabling condition. Amanda and Laura use treatments to develop, recover, or maintain the daily living and work skills of their patients. The therapists help clients not only to improve their basic motor functions and reasoning abilities, but also to compensate for permanent loss of function. The goal is to assist clients in achieving independent, productive, and satisfying lives. Some specific medical problems that benefit from OT include birth defects, traumatic injuries (brain or spinal cord), upper extremity orthopedic injuries, burns, cancer, multiple sclerosis, post surgical conditions such as hip or knee replacement, or stroke.

Hospital Inpatient and Swing Bed Physical and Occupational Therapy – Therapists assist patients in regaining strength and their ability to return to home as soon as possible. Physical therapists focus on strength and mobility whereas Occupational Therapy focuses on daily living activities.

Long Term Care Facility – Big Stone Therapies offers Physical and Occupational Therapy to long term care facility residents whether residents are staying long or short term. Physical therapists will work with those affected by conditions such as arthritis, cancer, joint replacement, and balance disorders to help restore mobility, reduce pain, and increase fitness levels. Amanda and Laura will work to maximize ability to complete daily tasks which may include the use of adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs, eating aids, and dressing aids. OT will also help clients improve decision-making, problem solving as well as memory, sequencing, and coordination.

Home Health – For those who qualify as home bound under Medicare guidelines, physical and occupational therapy can come into the patient’s home and treat their functional deficits to allow them to be as independent as possible.

School Based Pediatric Therapy – Pediatric therapists specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of infants, children, and adolescents with a variety of congenital, developmental, neuromuscular, skeletal, or acquired disorders/diseases. Treatment focuses on improving gross and fine motor skills, balance and coordination, strength and endurance as well as cognitive and sensory processing/integration. Children with developmental delays, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and torticollis are a few patients who benefit from therapy.

On-field Sports Medicine Services – Big Stone Therapies, Inc. is excited to partner with Lincoln HI High School to offer on-field sports medicine services. Lynn Simon, DPT/ATC is present at Lincoln HI sports practices two days per week and can be seen with the Big Stone Therapies blue and white shirts at selected Rebel activities. BST also offers the Jump Program, an athletic enhancement program targeted for middle and high school athletes. School athletic directors are invited to call us regarding the summer Jump Program, which has had great success in preparing young athletes for participation in team and individual sports.

Occupational Health Services – We partner with businesses and industries in the Watertown area to decrease employee injuries. Our services include workplace evaluations, therapy for work-related injuries, and on-site screening services. HR representatives or company health occupational representatives are invited to call our office to learn more about on-site services.

Free Screening Services – Free screens are available for all athletes to help them quickly get back in the game. Recommendations can be offered to coaching and parents to provide the athlete self-treatment ideas and guidelines for his or her return to sports participation. All children and adults of any age can benefit from a free screen to determine if their issue could improve with therapy or is more serious and requires further medical attention by a physician. The screening could also result in self-treatment ideas provided by the therapist.

Community Services – Our therapists are available to speak to groups or organizations on topics related to improving the functionality of the group members. Call Big Stone Therapies in Hendricks at 275-2217 to arrange a speaker for your next meeting. Group screenings are also a part of our services. We would love to complete an on-site screening session for your group or staff for Fall Prevention, Fit Back, and Fit Neck, balance screening, etc. Call us today!
