In partnership with Milbank Area Hospital, – Avera, Big Stone Therapies in Milbank is pleased to offer inpatient and outpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy services. Our staff provides therapies to patients of the hospital, long-term care facility, swing bed, and to outpatients. We are also involved in Milbank High School athletics. Our athletic trainer is present at selected Bulldog practices and events.
Inpatient Therapy – Our therapy team plays an integral part of a patient’s recovery. Working together with the care team, we assist the patient in regaining the needed skills in order to return home safely and confidently. Our physical therapy team focuses on assisting the patient regain strength and mobility during hospitalization or while in a swing bed. Our occupational therapy team works with the patient to regain skills for performing activities of daily living and our speech therapist provides therapies to aid with voice, language, or swallowing disorders.
Outpatient Therapy – Our physical therapy team works with people of all ages to regain strength, mobility, and functionality. We offer outpatient therapies in the areas of: orthopedics; post-surgical rehabilitation; hip, shoulder, knee and ankle rehabilitation; walking or balance disorders; back and neck issues; joint and muscle pain; arthritis management; stroke rehabilitation; work-related injuries, etc.
Our occupational therapy team helps patients function to the best of their ability in activities of daily living. Occupational therapy provides services for: hand/elbow/wrist issues; upper extremity functional exercises; adaptive equipment recommendations; wheelchair evaluations; pediatric outpatient services; cognition/memory assessments; and home safety assessments.
Our speech therapy team provides therapies to people of all ages for communication disorders related to voice, language, speech, or swallowing issues. Speech services include therapies for: pediatric speech delays; developmental disabilities; feeding/swallowing difficulties; genetic disorders (Down syndrome, fragile X syndrome); neurological disease/dysfunctions (stroke, MS, Parkinson’s, ALS); dementia; voice disorders (hoarseness, vocal nodules/polyps), etc.
Long-Term Care – Our Milbank therapy team offers residents of St. William’s Care Center physical, occupational, and speech therapy services. We provide physical therapy services to help residents affected by arthritis, cancer, joint replacement and balance disorders to restore mobility, reduce pain, and increase fitness levels. Occupational therapy can help residents maximize their abilities to complete daily tasks, which may include the use of adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs, eating aids, and dressing aids. OT services may also include therapies to assist residents with memory and cognition issues. Speech therapy services are also available to help residents with communication disorders that affect their speech, language, voice, or swallowing abilities. Speech therapy can also assist with memory and cognition issues.
On-Field Sports Medicine Services – Big Stone Therapies in Milbank is pleased to partner with the Milbank School District to offer on-field sports medicine services. Our athletic trainer is present at selected Bulldog practices and games and works with student athletes and coaches to provide education on injury prevention. In addition, our clinic provides free athletic screens for student athletes who may have an injury. Our ATC works closely with the coaching staff, physicians, and the student athlete’s family to help provide a safe environment in which to play.
Occupational Health Services – In addition to physical, occupational, and speech therapies, our staff provides occupational health services for area businesses and industries. In addition to treating injured workers, we provide injury prevention programs through our sister company, OccuPRO.
